What changed between Ben Shelton’s wobbles in the previous two rounds and his utter domination tonight? He jokes:
💬 “My team said if I didn’t show up fully focused, they were gonna leave.”
In all seriousness, Shelton said he did think it had to do with his mentality.
💬 “I think it was all in my head. I was fully focused today, played a complete match from start to finish and really happy with this performance. My first straightforward match so far this year. I’m happy with the way I played. I’m happy I could play this way in front of you guys (the crowd).
“When you start playing on this court each year, it’s like you’re starting over again. Obviously, the nerves hit every time. This is the first match I’ve played here this year where I’ve felt comfortable from the start, really finding my groove here and finding a flow state. Playing great tennis in the greatest stadium in the world is an unbelievable feeling.
“I haven’t gotten 150 (mph) on a serve this year yet. Maybe that’s coming soon!”
